Kevin O’Leary for Leadership of Conservative Party of Canada?

in Investing by

Yes, this is happening. Although not yet, technically. About two weeks ago Kevin live streamed on his Facebook page, posing a question to those watching: “Should I run for leader of the Conservative Party of Canada?” He explains that he has put a “terrific” group of people together to form his exploratory committee that will work to determine if he is the right candidate for the top job, and of course raise money. Check it out below. Keep Reading

Why Big Business is Excited About Trump

in Investing by

It’s hard to know what Americans must be thinking right now about the country’s economic future. About half (give or take the popular vote…), of Americans voted for President-Elect Trump, and I can only imagine that many must now be feeling like they’ve had the rug pulled out from under their feet. For starters, their soon-to-be-President promised them he would remove the corruption from Washington, yet his Cabinet appears to be stacked with billionaires. He also attacked Clinton rigorously for her conflict-of-interest connection to The Clinton Foundation during the campaign, but now we hear that he will remain a producer on his reality tv show The Apprentice. With this said, it is easy to see why the markets favour Trump, and why we’ve continued to see stocks rally (the S&P’s 500-stock index has risen 5.6% since the election). Keep Reading

How Does US Government Work?

in Investing by

With all of the US election coverage we’ve been watching, there has been consistant mention of the Senate and the House of Representatives, among other things, but who are these groups and what exactly is their relation to the President? These two bodies themselves actually make up one of the three bodies (the legislative branch), of power that make up the government: the executive branch, legislative branch and judicial branch. And to add a little colour, photos of each branch’s HQ are included, care of me and my recent tour of Washington, D.C.

Q&A: What are Bitcoin & Blockchain and More Importantly, Why Do They Matter?

in Investing by

We’ve been hearing about bitcoin for a number of years now in the mainstream media and the common understanding is that it is a digital currency. Of course, this currency has not hit the mainstream in use, and so there is still a cloud of mystery around how it works and why it is of great significance.

I’d like to start by clarifying that it is not Bitcoin itself that is so significant, but the potential for mass adoption of a cryptocurrency (also referred to as digital currency), and the underlying blockchain technology that allows for the incredibly safe and trustworthy transfer of the currency, and any other kind of data or information. To best put it into context, blockchain is the new internet, and Bitcoin is the app that leverages the internet technology. Blockchain is completely game changing and the opportunities for application are endless.

The Market’s Political Opinion

in Investing by

It’s just a little ironic that a politician obtuse business person who boasts about his tax plans to support America’s biggest corporations would also be the person who the market, aka big business, distrusts most.

According to The New York Times’ Economic View writer Justin Wolfers, “stocks may lose 10 to 12 per cent of their value if [Trump] wins the November election.”
